Later one, after serial number 9,xxx,xxx (1965) will have a spike. Only problem is they're around $60+ if you can find them. I picked mine up years ago when they were cheap, but should've gotten a few xtra.A Yugo, with grenade launcher and sights. Loved it, but it was stolen. The larger size and greater weight made it very stable on the bench, and accuracy was excellent. My current SKS is a 1957 production "Pseudo-Sino Soviet", serialed later than the true SS guns, but physically identical, Russian parts and styling.In short the Chinese SKS rifles are actually good quality, see below for some history. My norinco slam fired once. But that was about 9 years ago. Nothing but but good times since. Any SKS will slam fire if the firing pin channel is gunked up, so take that for what it's worth OP..
